Holiday Club Fun in Stockport: Why Kids Love Big Sports with Practically Family
When children join our Practically Family Holiday Clubs in Stockport, they start by choosing a Crew - Blue, Yellow, Orange or Green. It’s our fun way to help them settle in, buddy up, and feel part of something from day one. Some clubs even get our famous mix-ups - Blorange or Grellow (yes, really!) - and while there’s no difference between Crews, it helps us create smaller, happy groups that can dive into activities they love most.

Our youngest holiday clubbers (aged 3–4 years) still get to join the fun too - we just keep a close eye on energy levels, confidence and concentration to make sure they’re happy, comfortable and thriving. You can read more about how we tailor their day here.

But no matter which Crew your child joins - or how old they are - everyone is part of one big gang. And that’s where Big Sports comes in.

What is Big Sports?

Big Sports is one of the highlights of our school holiday clubs in Stockport - when everybody comes together for huge, laughter-filled group games and challenges.

Think traditional favourites like football, rounders and basketball, plus all-out fun like relay races, obstacle courses, mini Olympics and scavenger hunts. Some days even end with a disco party (which, let’s face it, counts as a proper workout!)

These are the moments where you’ll see all ages cheering each other on, making friends across groups, and discovering the joy of teamwork.

Why we love Big Sports

At Practically Family, we believe the best holiday clubs give children the best of both worlds - small group time to build friendships and confidence, and big group moments that bring the whole club together.

Big Sports ticks every box. It helps children:

  • Work as a team - learning to encourage and celebrate each other.

  • Build confidence - by trying new activities in a supportive, relaxed setting.

  • Stay active - getting outside, running, jumping and moving their bodies.

  • Develop leadership - whether they’re leading the race, cheering the loudest, or helping a younger friend join in.

Everything we do is child-led, so whether they’re joining the game, keeping score, or cheering from the sidelines, they’re always included, empowered and having fun.

Even the Big Kids get Involved

When it’s Big Sports time, it’s not just the kids who get stuck in - the Holiday Club Crew are right there with them. That’s half the fun.

Whether they’re being pelted with water balloons in a summer showdown, attempting (and usually failing!) to stay upright on a balance beam, or diving into a muddy obstacle course with the same enthusiasm as the children, we’re all in it together.

It’s this shared sense of play that makes Big Sports so special. The children love seeing their grown-ups join the chaos - cheering, laughing, sometimes getting absolutely soaked — because it shows them that play isn’t something you grow out of. It’s something you grow with.

These are the moments that stick: the big laughs, the funny fails, the proud cheers when someone finally nails the relay handover. That’s what Big Sports is all about - being part of one big, happy family.
